Lake Plimsoll – boat ramp closed when lake level is high (permanent alert)

To ensure public safety, the Lake Plimsoll boat ramp boom gate is closed to prevent access to the boat ramp when the lake is within 0.3m of its full supply level. You can check the current level here.

It can be very dangerous to be near the lake when levels are high, so please do not enter when the gate is closed. The gate will only reopen when Lake Plimsoll is lower than 0.3 m from full, and when it is not expected for the lake to spill in the coming week.

West

Lake Mackintosh – campground and boat ramps closed when lake level is high (permanent alert)

To ensure public safety, the spillway road gate closes when the lake is within 0.3m of full supply. See current levels here.

It can be very dangerous to use the spillway road when lake levels are high, so please do not enter when the gate is closed. The gate will only reopen when Lake Mackintosh is lower than 0.3 m from full, and when it is not expected for the lake to spill in the coming week.

Gowrie Park – do not consume water (permanent alert)

Visitors to Gowrie Park should not consume water from the local reticulated supply. Boiling will not make the water safe for:

Bailey Bridge (permanent alert)

The Bailey Bridge on Lake Repulse Road is permanently closed.

Locked boom gates have been installed at both ends, restricting vehicle access. Walking, horse riding and cycling across the bridge are still permitted.

The load rating has been reduced from 7 tonnes to 3.5 tonnes to allow safe operation for access to the Repulse Power Station only.

Residents of Dawson Road, and others who normally use the bridge, are encouraged to access Dawson Road via Ellendale Road (south of Ouse).

If travelling in the area, please exercise caution.

South

Pedder Wilderness Lodge – accommodation closed (restaurant and fuel open)

Accommodation at Pedder Wilderness Lodge is unavailable until further notice, as the lodge being used to house Hydro Tasmania employees and contractors currently undertaking refurbishment works at the Gordon Power Station.

The Twelvetrees Bar and Restaurant and fuel services remain open daily from 11 am to 3 pm, with lunch served from 12 pm to 2 pm.

Opening hours will be reassessed during the winter months to accommodate changes in visitor numbers.

South

Lake Rosebery – update

Lake Rosebery is now open, including the boat ramp, after an oil spill in early 2025.

Booms will remain in place around a very small section of Henry Bay as part of the final clean-up effort. Please avoid these areas.

Recent water quality testing has shown that the water is safe for recreational activities such as swimming.

North-West

Edgar Dam campground and boat ramp – closed

These facilities will be closed until mid-2026 due to construction activity. If you’re visiting the area, you may encounter increased traffic along Scotts Peak Road, including large trucks. If you’re travelling through to Scotts Peak Dam or Huon Campground, please be prepared for short delays as you will need to pass through the work site. We apologise for these disruptions.
