Water pricing
Every year, we set prices for water taken under a water transfer agreement. The prices differ across catchments, reflecting what Hydro Tasmania would have earned if we had used that water to generate electricity.

Sometimes, you may be able to access water without a fee if there’s a lot of rain and flow. Have a chat with us about how to sustainably use this shared resource.

The fees for the upcoming financial year apply to all water transfer agreements.

Report your water use
Together, we can work to manage water resources in your catchment sustainably and fairly.

If you already access water under a water transfer agreement with us, you need to report your water use annually, at the end of each financial year. You can do this easily using the online reporting form below. If you need help completing this form, email water.allocations@hydro.com.au and a member of the water team will get back to you.

To document your water use, we expect you to use water meters. Pattern-approved meters are the most effective and accurate. For more information on water meters, visit NRE Tasmania.

Please also read the Department of Natural Resources and Environment Tasmania’s terms and conditions of water licences.

Complete one form for each water transfer agreement you hold or are responsible for reporting against.

Payment support
If you're worried about paying your water bill, please give our water team a call on 03 6240 4617 or email us at waterallocations@hydro.com.au. We'll work with you to develop a customised payment solution that suits your circumstances.

There are lots of options, from one-off payment extensions to regular payment plans. We can also help you improve your water accounting methods so you only pay for what you use.

If you’d prefer someone else to communicate with us on your behalf, we will need your written consent first. Please email this through to us, along with contact details, and we’ll aim to respond in 2 business days.

So that we can help you, you’ll need to:

  • pay agreed amounts in full and on time or tell us if your ability has changed and why
  • keep your contact details up to date
  • work with us to audit your water use to identify possible efficiencies.

Depending on your circumstances, we may also need you to:

  • update your metering and/or water accounting measures
  • work with an external agency such as Natural Resources and Environment Tasmania, a financial advisor or agricultural consultant
  • work with us to lower your water use to an affordable level.
