Tarraleah is an important part of our future clean energy vision and activity kicked off in late 2022, with a start on upgrades to the existing scheme and a dive into the commercial feasibility of reimagining Tarraleah.

Nearly a century after its construction, Tarraleah Estate will again be a bustling worker’s village. In early 2023, we announced our purchase of the site to support our future workforce in Tasmania’s central highlands.

As the iconic Tarraleah hydropower scheme was constructed, a village grew up around it. Starting with little more than a pack horse track leading to Tarraleah, the village soon housed more one thousand workers and their families.

The iconic Tarraleah hydro scheme in Tasmania’s central highlands has been powering the state for more than 85 years. This is an opportunity to reimagine the scheme to deliver more energy and improve operational flexibility to meet Tasmania’s future energy needs and suit a changing electricity market.

On the 22nd of February, we opened our doors to the community, inviting hundreds of Tasmanians to delve into the fascinating world of the Tarraleah Power Station! Nestled in the picturesque Tarraleah Village, the event was a celebration of our rich history and a glimpse into the promising future of renewable energy in Tasmania.
