We’re Australia’s largest generator of clean, renewable energy, and champions for a sustainable future. For more than a century, Tasmanians have relied on our hydropower to grow communities and the economy. We're now applying our traditional values to modern challenges, because we care about Tasmanians and our island’s future.

Who we are

We employ more than 1300 people, including almost 800 Tasmanians. Our people are diverse, skilled, and passionate about a clean energy future for Tasmania and Australia. We support the ambitions of young Tasmanians through our graduate program, apprenticeships and internships.

What we do

Every year, we produce about 9000 gigawatt hours of clean electricity from hydropower – enough to power about 900,000 Australian homes and small businesses. We also generate from wind and gas. Our system has a total capacity of more than 2600 megawatts and includes 30 power stations and more than 50 major dams.

Our governance

We're a Government Business Enterprise owned by the Tasmanian Government on behalf of the people of Tasmania. Our Board, led by Chairman Grant Every-Burns, and Executive Leadership Group, led by Acting CEO Ian Brooksbank, follow high standards of corporate governance, ethics and prudent financial management to deliver the best outcomes for Tasmanians.

COVID-19 vaccination policy

Hydro Tasmania has implemented a COVID-19 Vaccination Policy that comes into effect on 31 January 2022. This policy requires all employees, contractors, suppliers, volunteers, persons undertaking work placement and visitors to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and supply proof of vaccination.

Our history

Tasmania’s story is a Hydro story; a story of creating power for people. For more than a century, Tasmanians have relied on us. We're determined to honour and celebrate the stories of struggle, resilience and ingenuity that carried Tasmania into the full industrial era and made it a world leader in renewable energy.

Doing business with us

In a typical year, we spend about $100 million on the goods and services of more than 800 Tasmanian suppliers. Our consulting arm, Entura, also makes a significant contribution. We're proud to support the Tasmanian community and economy through local business partnerships.
