Enabling wind and solar

Wind and solar are a critical part of our future energy mix
Our state has some of the best renewable energy resources in the world — not only vast storages of water, but sunshine and very strong winds.

Tasmania’s demand for electricity is growing and wind and solar are the fastest, lowest cost way to deliver new energy supply. Hydropower can fill in the gaps when the sun isn’t shining and the wind doesn’t blow.

We have an important role to play in enabling new wind and solar projects in Tasmania, as well as complementary technologies. We encourage proponents of new and existing projects to talk to us about the variety of contract options available, including firming and power purchase agreements.

Together, we can build an energy system that is clean, reliable and ready for the future, while also creating jobs and local benefits for Tasmanians and keeping power prices as low as possible.

Tasmania’s first large-scale solar farm

We have entered into an offtake agreement to enable a large-scale solar project in Tasmania: TasRex’s 288 MW Northern Midlands solar farm. Learn more about how we’re working with partners to grow Tasmania’s renewable energy future.
