Wind

For more than a century, our power stations have electrified Tasmania. We’re working to generate clean, reliable electricity today and for generations to come.

Huxley Hill Wind Farm

We own and operate the Huxley Hill Wind Farm on King Island. It was only the second commercial wind farm in Australia. It started generating in 1998, initially with 3 Nordex N29 wind turbines. In 2003, we commissioned another 2 larger Vestas V52 wind turbines. The original 3 Nordex wind turbines were refurbished in 2025, with the refurbishment of the 2 younger turbines to follow.

A 1.5 MW solar farm was also installed on the Huxley Hill Wind Farm and integrated into the King Island power generation system. It was commissioned early in 2024.

Flinders Island wind

Before we integrated renewable energy sources, Flinders Island relied on diesel fuel for electricity, which was supplied by the 3 MW power station, serving 6.7 GWh of annual customer demand, peaking at 1.3 MW. The current system on Flinders Island was commissioned in 2017 and has been able to significantly reduce the amount of diesel fuel needed to generate electricity on Flinders Island. It includes one wind turbine and a solar array, supported by a battery, flywheel and dynamic resistor.
