Tasmania’s rich hydropower history puts our state in a great place to support the rapidly changing electricity market. Our state can provide cost-effective, dispatchable, highly flexible renewable energy, backed by long duration hydropower storage capacity.

The sheer power of water will be on display during a big weekend in Launceston in mid-September.

We’re investing $11.5m in King Island’s Huxley Hill Wind Farm, a vital part of the world-leading off-grid hybrid energy system that powers the entire island!

Specialist power and water consulting firm Entura has been appointed by Genex Power to deliver a bankable feasibility study for the Kidston Pumped Storage Hydropower Project in North Queensland, Australia. Situated some 270km North West of Townsville, near the township of Georgetown, the project is located on the site of the historic Kidston Gold Mine. The abandoned mine site contains two large adjacent pits with the potential to act as the upper and lower reservoirs required for pumped storage hydropower generation.

I lead the team that manages Hydro Tasmania’s iconic hydro-power assets. It is a huge privilege, and responsibility that is invigorating and slightly daunting. The hydro portfolio is vast, complex, remote and ageing. We have challenges and much work to do, but that is what makes my job interesting.
