The next stage for Tarraleah will be the Environmental Impact Statement and Development Application for the project.

We have done a lot of work to understand what impacts there might be on the environment and community, and plans for how we can avoid or reduce them.

We value hearing from you. Your feedback helps us know what matters most to the community and how you feel about the proposed redevelopment of the iconic scheme.

Major projects must be assessed by the Australian Government if they could impact on matters of national environmental significance. We’ve been keeping you updated on how the Tarraleah Redevelopment project is progressing through this process.

Last year, we submitted an updated application (called a “referral”) and invited public feedback in August. Since then, the Commonwealth has asked us for extra information. They have also confirmed that the Project needs a full environmental assessment (this is called a ‘controlled action’).

In late January, we have construction and maintenance works starting on the Tarraleah Scheme.

To ensure public safety, Butlers Gorge Road (from the Lyell Highway turnoff) will be closed 24/7 from Tuesday 27 January to the end of March. Mossy Marsh Dam, Clark Dam, the lookout and the boat ramp won’t be accessible during this period.

The Lake King William campground also remains closed.

No 1 Pond will be closed to the public from 16 February to 16 March while Hydro Tasmania undertakes No.1 canal cleaning works.
