Over 90% of the project budget is being spent on services from businesses located in Tasmania, with the upgrade well underway and expected to be completed in the second half of 2026.

The project is being carried out in partnership with our consulting arm Entura, with Tasmanian civil construction company Hall Earthmoving contracted to carry out the majority of the upgrade works.

Major projects must be assessed by the Australian Government if they could impact on matters of national environmental significance. We’ve been keeping you updated on how the Tarraleah Redevelopment project is progressing through this process.

Last year, we submitted an updated application (called a “referral”) and invited public feedback in August. Since then, the Commonwealth has asked us for extra information. They have also confirmed that the Project needs a full environmental assessment (this is called a ‘controlled action’).

We partnered with Workskills Tasmania to provide a group of young people from the Derwent Valley and beyond the opportunity to get hands-on experience in the construction industry. Together we flew drones, dug trenches for sediment curtains and helped install the finishing touches to the accommodation pods. It’s great to be giving local kids the opportunity to see what careers can happen in their own back yards!
