A volunteer-run junior sports organisation is now providing the joys of participation to a more diverse range of members, thanks to a community grant from Hydro Tasmania.

When we meet Daniel Simms (Operational Mentoring Lead) at the Cambridge workshop, there’s a definite buzz around – and it’s not coming only from the tools and big machines (impressive as they are!)

In January 2023 (with years of planning), a major refurbishment at Rowallan Power Station kicked off. Around 160 Hydro Tasmania employees and contractors have been working on the upgrades, including Site Manager, Scott Tatsi. Scott holds a huge sense of pride for this refurbishment, with the project being close to the final commissioning stage.

Hydro Tasmania and the State Government have a plan to manage energy supply and that plan is being implemented.

Every year, up to $5,000 is awarded to volunteer, community and not-for-profit groups through Hydro Tasmania's Community Grant Program, and now there is also up to $10,000 for organisations directly involved in helping Tasmanians through the social and economic effects of COVID-19.

Nearly a century after its construction, Tarraleah Estate will again be a bustling worker’s village. In early 2023, we announced our purchase of the site to support our future workforce in Tasmania’s central highlands.

The Tarraleah hydropower scheme in central Tasmania is one of state’s oldest. With some parts of the scheme more than 80 years old, we’re looking at options for its future.

A major redevelopment of Tarraleah would see it generate more clean energy, to help meet the growing demand for energy and power the state for generations to come.
