Project Update – July & August 2025
Snow, wind, rain and so, so, so much mud … but that hasn’t stopped our hardy project team.
In August, we reached an important project milestone, with work starting on the first 50 m stretch of Edgar Dam’s downstream concrete facing.
Before this first piece of downstream concrete face was removed, a section of temporary wave wall (visible in the aerial shot below) was installed along the dam wall to protect the exposed downstream face from wave erosion - our last update below gives more info about this wave wall. Another essential bit of prep happened underwater, with the Tasmanian Diving Group replacing old water stops across the upstream dam face. Just like the silicone around your shower, water stops help maintain the integrity and durability of a dam and need replacing from time to time as part of good dam maintenance.
We continue to maintain the toe pond pumping system in Edgar Toe Pond which ensures ground water levels are kept down to enable safe excavation. Toe pond excavation works are expected to commence in September.

In other good news, the two automatic washing and disinfection biosecurity facilities are now fully operational, replacing the interim measures that have been in place. The facilities help us minimise biosecurity risks. The team are quite happy, as it means they get to stay warm and dry in their cars – no more manual spraying needed!
Lastly, we’re seeking ideas from Tasmanians that live, work or visit the area to inform our Community Benefit Sharing Program. We did some brainstorming to start you off. As you can see we’re open to all sorts of ideas.
