Project Update – Jan - March 2026
The complex, deep excavation work is largely done, and the new buttress can be seen rising in a staggered fashion along the length of the dam wall. The precast concrete wave wall panels have started to be moved into their permanent position. This will allow further placement of material around the panels and construction of a new concrete slab on the dam crest. Deliveries of buttress materials (sand, gravel and rock) are expected to be completed in May which will see a reduction in truck movements on Gordon River Road.
We know this truck traffic has affected our neighbours along Gordon River Road, and we appreciate your patience and understanding. We also want to take this opportunity to reassure road users that road maintenance on Gordon River and Scotts Peak roads is ongoing, and these roads will be returned to their previous condition.
Work has started on the rehabilitation plans for Edgar Dam campground and the broader work site. This will include landscaping, replanting targeted areas, spreading of the topsoil that was stockpiled at the start of the works and controls to manage drainage and sedimentation. Weed monitoring and management will also be undertaken. Within the previous campground footprint, a landscape architecture team is helping us design a thoughtful space that’s aligned with the environment and landscape values and guided by user needs. Recent feedback from local communities and visitors will help inform the initial design and we’ll share some options for further feedback. Stay tuned for more info.
