Celebrating culture: the NTFA Aboriginal Round 2024

News 19 Jun, 2024
In 2022, the Long Walk came to Tasmania, as part of the Northern Tasmanian Football Association's Aboriginal Round. Hydro Tasmania has been a proud sponsor of the event and the round, which celebrates the contributions of Aboriginal footballers to the competition. Watch the recap video here.

In 2004, Michael Long made a historic trek, walking from his home in the suburbs of Melbourne to Parliament House in Canberra - more than 650 kilometres away. Michael took it upon himself to get Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander issues back on the national agenda, with many supporters from all over Australia joining his walk.

Rocherlea Football Club and their President, Graeme Gardner, has been the driving force behind the NTFA's Aboriginal Round since 2009. The round celebrates the contributions of Aboriginal footballers to the competition and is a time to share history and culture.

Paired with the "Little Long Walk", the community spirit at the annual round is vibrant. Hydro Tasmania is very proud to be a sponsor of the event since 2022, and we look forward to support the event for years to come.
