Frequently asked questions - Apprenticeships

We offer electrical and mechanical fitter apprenticeships across Tasmania. Locations change each year depending on our projects and the skills we need.

Apprenticeships are for 4 years.

Apprenticeships start on the first Monday of February each year with an induction in Hobart.

Training includes:

  • TAFE
  • asset management skills training – how to maintain our assets
  • compliance and legislative training – first aid / confined space / working at heights, etc.
  • development opportunities agreed with your manager

We want to create amazing career opportunities and retain great talent. We can’t guarantee a full-time position after your apprenticeship, but we want to support your career development. We’ll work with you through your apprenticeship so that you know about any opportunities.

You’ll be asked to submit an application, then we shortlist suitable applicants for an interview. If you are shortlisted, we’ll invite you to spend a day on-site with our production supervisors.

The application process will also include background checks (like references, police check and a medical – which we’ll pay for), and you may need to complete aptitude tests (online tests designed to measure your potential in certain skill areas) depending on your role. You’ll need to complete all steps as soon as possible so we can make our final decisions.

Answer all the questions from the advert in your cover letter. Tell us about any hands-on experience you have – like tinkering with your car, woodwork, welding, etc. Start a photo portfolio of some of your work.

You must have completed Grade 10, and it is good to have completed or be working towards finishing a Certificate II in Electrotechnology, Engineering Pathways or Mechanical Fitting.

Address your cover letter to ‘The hiring manager’.
