Classroom sessions

Our education team can visit your school and provide free activity-based presentations.

Fantastic forces
Students move through hands-on stations exploring different push and pull forces and learn how water and wind push turbines.
  • Year: K - 2
  • Timeframe: 1 hr
  • No. of students: 30
The valley of change
Using a large magnetic board and magnets, students actively participate in constructing a community around a water catchment and find out how electricity has changed our way of life.
  • Year: 1 - 3
  • Timeframe: 40 minutes
  • No. of students: 30

Forces and magnetism
Through visual and hands on activities students learn about forces and how they move water. Students are also introduced to the power of magnetism.
  • Year: 3 - 4
  • Timeframe: 1hr 15 minutes
  • No. of students: 30

What is hydropower
Students explore the different forms of energy, the history of hydropower in Tasmania and how energy is generated. Students engage in an engineering task to build a stand for a turbine and test it under a tap.
  • Year: 5 - 6
  • Timeframe: 1hr 15 minutes
  • No. of students: 30

Energy in motion
An exciting engineering project for students to build a ball run using cardboard. They will learn about gravitational potential energy and kinetic energy, and how these relate to hydro power.
  • Year: 5 - 6
  • Timeframe: 1hr 30 minutes
  • No. of students: 30
