Work life, and everything outside that

Klimt started working with us 15 years ago, as a Graduate Finance Analyst. Fast forward to today, and Klimt is now a senior leader in our Finance team, whilst also operating a popular brewery in his ‘free time’.

“I started the brewery as I always had a passion for starting my own business. As it turns out, I have a strong passion for the work Hydro Tasmania does too, and I am lucky enough to be able to do both,” said Klimt.

“We are at such an exciting time in Australia as we transition away from coal-fire energy. The world has to change and Hydro Tasmania are at the forefront of it. Who doesn’t want to be part of that?”

Klimt tells us that the biggest change he has seen in the last 15 years is seeing employees seek more from their jobs than simply a salary.

“When I interview candidates, they want to know what Hydro Tasmania can provide them in return. And I tell them that our employee value proposition is why I have stayed so long. It is real. You work hard and in return you get a genuine work-life balance.”

“Work-life balance is celebrated here.”

Internal mobility within the organisation is another critical part of our value proposition. Klimt recalls moving into various areas of the business over his time, and he encourages his employees to educate themselves on the complex nature of renewable energy by experiencing different parts of our organisation.

So, how does Klimt manage being a senior leader with us, and head of a growing brewery?

“It is all about trusting people to do the right job. We have a culture of trust both here at Hydro Tasmania and at the brewery.”
