We’ve worked hard to put the best possible deal on the table. The price we’ve offered is as low as we can go without it becoming uncommercial. 

As the Minister for Energy has previously outlined, there remains a gap between the price Hydro Tasmania can responsibly offer and the price Rio Tinto is prepared to pay. 

Additional government support may be required to bridge that gap, as we’ve seen provided for mainland aluminium smelters. 

We will continue to negotiate in good faith with Rio Tinto and other stakeholders in an effort to achieve a positive outcome for Tasmania.
