Specialist power and water consulting firm Entura is helping the Cook Islands reduce reliance on diesel fuel, as part of the country’s goal to use renewable energy on all islands by 2020. The Cook Islands is a group of 15 small islands in the Pacific, to the north-east of New Zealand. Entura will develop preliminary designs for remote area power systems in six islands, and assist the Cook Islands Government in their implementation.

Hydro Tasmania’s ongoing contribution to the sustainability of hydropower development and operation internationally has again been recognised with an award presented last month in China. Dr Helen Locher, Hydro Tasmania’s principal consultant for sustainability, was presented with the 2015 Mosonyi Award for Excellence in Hydropower during the 2015 World Hydropower Congress in Beijing. Dr Locher joined Luiz Gabriel Azevedo and Jean-Étienne Klimpt as the winners of the 2015 Award.

The Hydro Tasmania group and its people are contributing almost $50,000 to relief efforts in Nepal following the devastating 25 April earthquake.

Collaboration between Hydro Tasmania and the Inland Fisheries Service (IFS) aims to improve the fishing experience at one of Tasmania’s most iconic trout fishing lakes.

Hydro Tasmania will donate up to $20 000 to support those affected by the earthquake in Nepal. Hydro Tasmania had employees on the ground in Nepal just prior to the devastating 25 April earthquake.

Today’s announcement of in-principle bipartisan agreement on the Renewable Energy Target is an encouraging development. We look forward to delivery of a clear and stable policy position to provide investment certainty for developers and owners.

Southern Africa’s newest hydropower plant met its final project milestone in January, achieving full commercial operation. The Neusberg hydropower project was officially launched in South Africa on 3 March 2015.
