Hydro Tasmania is delighted to be sponsoring one of the biggest fishing events in Tasmanian history.

The state will host the 39th Fips-Mouche World Fly Fishing Championships in November and December 2019. It’s only the third time Tasmania and Australia has hosted the event, and the first since 1988.

The CEO of Hydro Tasmania, Steve Davy, said as a major sponsor, the business will provide $50,000 to support the event, including $10,000 of in-kind support.

“While providing clean, secure energy is Hydro Tasmania’s first priority, we also take pride in supporting the activities that enrich Tasmanians’ lives,” Mr Davy said.

“As well as supporting the Championships financially, we’re providing some of the lakes we manage as competition venues, and investing to provide safe road access.

“Tasmania has some of the best fly fishing waters in Australia, and we’re expecting hundreds of international and interstate visitors

“We’re delighted to be stepping-up our support for Tasmanian angling and tourism by sponsoring this prestigious event,” he said.

The Tasmanian Government is also contributing $100,000 to support the 2019 Championships.

Hydro Tasmania is Australia’s leading clean energy business, largest generator of renewable energy, and largest water manager. The business manages more than 50 lakes and lagoons, including some popular angling waters that’ll be used for the 2019 Championships.
