Recreational sites

Have a good time on us

Hydro Tasmania has a long history with Tasmania. We have built roads to access inaccessible locations for 100 years, created lakes and brought together remote communities. This places us perfectly to guide you around our sites, whether a lake to fish on, river to kayak on or dam to abseil down.

We look to return value to the state by supporting small businesses, such as old 'hydro construction villages' now run as commercial accommodation and regional tourism businesses helping to show off the best Tasmania has to offer.

A large amount of Hydro Tasmania land and many waterways are managed for visitor access and we welcome you to these areas for recreation and relaxation. Further details about these locations are outlined on this website including information about facilities provided, as well as activities permitted and prohibited.

It's important that our visitors enjoy their activities and also remain safe at all times. We recently introduced a new Public Safety Management Standard and are currently undertaking comprehensive assessments for all our public sites. This process has seen some upgrades to amenities and safety signage, and will allow us to continue to improve the visitor experience. Up to date information about this project is available on our latest Recreational Sites fact sheet.
