Turning nature into electricity

For more than 100 years Hydro Tasmania has been harnessing natural energy to power Tasmanian households and businesses. We are Australia’s largest producer of renewable energy, and also the country’s largest water manager, with 30 hydropower stations in operation around the State.

Every year we open the doors of some of Tasmania's hydropower assets, providing guided power station tours to the public.

In October 2016 we held tours at three iconic power stations around Tasmania: Gordon Power Station, John Butters Power Station and Trevallyn Power Station.

We received a great level of interest from local communities, with over 860 people coming through our doors to see how we turn water into electricity.
