Gordon Power Station Open Day

Come on a guided tour of Gordon Power Station and learn how we harness the power of the water from Lake Gordon to generate electricity. Bookings are essential.

 Time:   Tours will run every 10 minutes from 10:00am until 4:00pm 
    Tours run for approximately 30 minutes

Your safety

  • Please be advised that for safety reasons tour group sizes will be limited.
  • As this is a working power station and for safety reasons there is no disabled and wheelchair access.
  • Please note the guided tour will involve accessing parts of the station by climbing up and down stairs.
  • ALL visitors must wear long trousers, long sleeves and sturdy closed-in, flat heeled shoes.
  • Pacemakers: due to the electro-magnetic fields produced, people with pacemakers are unable to enter the power station as this may interfere with their device.

Security

  • As this is an operating power station, cameras, bags, food and drinks are not permitted inside the station, and therefore we ask that you please leave these items in your car.
  • You are welcome to bring phones and jackets into the power stations.
  • No flash photography in the power station.

Getting there

Tours will depart from Pedder Wilderness Lodge.

  • take the Lyell Highway (A10) from Hobart to New Norfolk
  • from New Norfolk, take the B62 to Bushy Park
  • continue on B61 through Westerway and Maydena to Strathgordon
  • travel time is approximately 2.5 hours each way

Aardvark Adventures will be on-site offering thrill seekers the opportunity to abseil the Gordon Dam, the world's highest commercial abseil. The Dam is several metres higher than Sydney Harbour Bridge. Please note this adventure is not suitable for minors - all participants must be aged 18 years or older.
