Vegetation burn offs in Trevallyn during June

6 June 2021

A series of vegetation burn offs will take place in Launceston between 7–25 June as Hydro Tasmania works on the Trevallyn powerline easement between Pitt Street and the West Tamar Highway, to both reduce the risk of bushfires and control weeds in the area.

Owned by Hydro Tasmania, this is a popular dog walking spot which has been invaded by gorse and will be a more pleasant area to visit once the work is complete.

The burns can only take place weather permitting, but residents and commuters should expect some smoke during this time, although we are taking steps to produce as little smoke as possible by burning only small stockpiles of vegetation at any one time.

Anyone at risk of harm from breathing smoky air is advised to call the Tasmanian Government’s Public Health Hotline on 1800 671 738.

Complaints about smoke can be lodged with the Environment Protection Authority on 1800 005 171.

We apologise for any temporary inconvenience caused by this necessary work.

Ends.
