Apprentice program

You can gain a trade and build a career with us! Our four-year program will provide you with technical skills, the chance to work with highly specialised equipment, gain a formal qualification and provide you with a generous salary.

Applications for our apprentice program must have completed year 10 and a certificate in Mechanical Fitting is desireable.
During your apprenticeship, you will be:
  • Working in a hands-on environment with highly specialised equipment on infrastructure including power stations, dams, canals, pipelines and tunnels
  • Contributing to an outage project, including one in your local area and one in another Tasmanian region (accommodation provided)
  • Given on and off the job training, with course and tuition fees covered
  • Delivering an annual work project
  • Spending time at power stations around Tasmania
  • Working side by side with mentors in the field to take advantage of their wealth of knowledge and experience.

Application instructions

Your application must include a resume and cover letter. Tell us about any relevant experience, the skills you have or are working towards and why you are the best candidate for the role, ensuring you address the criteria listed below.

Criteria

Tell us about…

  • Why you want to work for Hydro Tasmania and what about the trade specifically interests you
  • Or show us photos of your practical and hands-on experience, for example, if your hobbies include tinkering with your car, woodwork, welding, pulling apart radios/computers, etc
  • Your experience balancing multiple priorities including work and study
  • The thing you are most proud of achieving or have excelled at (it might be mastering an instrument, winning a competition/award or simply preserving or pursuing something you are passionate about)

You will have completed year 10 and hold or be working towards a current driver's licence. It is desirable to have completed or working towards completion of a Certificate II Engineering Pathways. We will also require you to complete health assessment and background checks.
