Anthony Catchment

The Anthony Power Development, approved by Parliament in 1983, is in effect part of the Pieman River Power Development.

The scheme, which is situated in the wettest part of the state, involved the diversion of the Henty River and a number of its tributaries into the Anthony River/Pieman River catchment. Water from the Henty River and its various tributaries is pumped by the Newton Pump Station into the Henty Canal and this water feeds into the main storage area for the scheme, Lake Plimsoll.

Water from Lake Plimsoll is carried by a seven kilometre-long tunnel to the underground Tribute Power Station which is near the shore of Lake Murchison. The tailrace water from the power station flows into Lake Murchison and is used again in the three Pieman power stations.

Because of the scenic nature of the area a comprehensive environmental plan was prepared for the development. The plan minimised environmental damage during the construction period and revegetation was ongoing throughout the building of the scheme.
