Through our water management reviews, we systematically assess our water management practices, identify issues of environmental concern and identify measures to move us towards more sustainable water management. The process aims to achieve a balance between economical operation, ecological sustainability and community acceptance.
This process is being undertaken on a catchment-by-catchment basis across the six major catchment groups in the hydro-electric generating system. It is consistent with the State government requirements for water management planning, so that outcomes from a WMR may be readily incorporated into the State's Water Management Plans.
To date, the South Esk- Great Lake WMR has been completed and work is progressing on the Derwent catchment. Other catchments will be studied in the years to come.
