Our Energy and Greenhouse Program coordinates the business response to energy efficiency and energy issues.
The major strands of the program include:
- capturing and collating data on energy use and greenhouse gas emissions
- reporting for Greenhouse Challenge Plus
- creating a strong procedural framework so that we recognise and respond to energy efficiency opportunities and greenhouse gas emission avoidance/mitigation options
- increasing awareness of the importance of energy efficiency, particularly in business decisions regarding energy production and facilities management, but also across our entire business
- actually reducing energy use through targeted projects such as
- fuel substitution for energy generation (wind for diesel, and, at Bell Bay Power Station, natural gas for fuel oil)
- hydropower generation system efficiency improvements (such as power station upgrades)
- vehicle fleet management, including replacing six-cylinder with four-cylinder vehicles and purchasing electric/petrol hybrid vehicles
- commercial building upgrades and retrofits, including more efficient lighting.
