Each hydropower scheme reflects the time in which it was designed and built, and becomes an example of the continued development of engineering knowledge and hydro-electricity technology.
Village sites and the remnants of construction activities carry vital information about the schemes and the places they were built. Even as ruins, these places are a valuable link to the lives and work of the people who brought them into existence.
