Hydro Tasmania has welcomed the Council of Australian Governments’ endorsement of the final design and commitment to implementing the 20 per cent renewable energy target by 2020.
CEO Vince Hawksworth said Hydro Tasmania – Australia’s leading renewable energy business – had a strong pipeline of projects that will increase the overall level of renewable energy generation in Tasmania as well as new projects on mainland Australia, particularly through Roaring 40s – a 50-50 joint venture between Hydro Tasmania and China Light and Power.
“Renewable energy businesses stand ready to deliver a more secure and diverse energy supply, building employment and delivering sustainable development outcomes,” Mr Hawksworth said.
“The next key steps are for swift parliamentary passage of the legislation as soon as possible that will result in the rollout of renewable energy projects commence and an increase in renewable energy in Australia’s energy mix.”
Mr Hawksworth said Hydro Tasmania looked forward to support for the implementation of this essential measure over the coming weeks.
