Graduate Development Program

Hydro Tasmania’s 3-year Graduate Development Program (GDP) aims to be ‘the leading choice for graduates in renewable energy’ by ensuring that Hydro Tasmania graduates are given opportunities to develop their career aspirations and contribute to the long term growth and sustainability of the business.

The GDP strives to achieve the stated aims, purpose and objectives, and to assist in attracting and retaining outstanding graduates by:

  • creating and maintaining a nationally competitive and highly functional Graduate Program
  • delivering a diverse program that is flexible in tailoring technical and personal development opportunities within and external to the business
  • allocating a dedicated mentor to each graduate to facilitate their career development
  • providing a broad range of experiences and challenges to allow the graduates to identify and develop into specialist areas
  • assisting in the development of future leaders in Hydro Tasmania and the renewable energy community
  • actively promoting graduate opportunities through scholarships and vocational work
  • motivating our graduates to take ownership in Hydro Tasmania’s goal in fostering a sustainable future.

Our Graduate Development Program includes:

  • support for the attainment of professional qualifications
  • professional body membership
  • Core Training Requirements, which focuses on developing the necessary interpersonal, business management and leadership skills required in a team environment
  • mentoring
  • developmental rotations, allowing opportunities for broad technical skill development
  • regular events, such as forums, guest speakers and social networking functions
  • opportunities for vacation placements.

Graduate Recruitment

The 2009 vacancies have been filled, and the 2010 Hydro Tasmania Graduate intake is yet to be finalised, but will look to have opportunities in:

  • Engineering - Civil, Electrical , Mechanical, Renewable Energy, Structural, Energy Efficiency
  • Finance / Economics
  • Surveying

Graduate Application Process

The graduate application process consists of the following steps:

  1. Applications submitted to Hydro Tasmania by May, 2009.
  2. Short-listed candidates' applications provided to Hydro Tasmania manager to select for interview by May 2009.
  3. Selected candidates undergo a series of behavioural interviews with a panel of three Hydro Tasmania employees, held June, 2009.
  4. Reference checking conducted with candidate referees. 
  5. Offers made to successful candidates by June 2009.
  6. Academic transcripts sought upon completion of undergraduate degree

Location

The majority of graduate positions are based in Hobart, Tasmania with the potential for opportunities in Melbourne or Queensland.
