Become an Apprentice for Hydro Tasmania (PDF 487 KB)
A dedicated in-house program for apprentices will ensure success both for the future career of the apprentice and the skill base of our field personnel.
Hydro Tasmania is keen to attract and employ apprentices who have the technical ability and personal drive to achieve their trade certification and have the academic abilities to advance through the Generation Technician (GenTech) Framework.
We are conducting information sessions around Tasmania and encourage potential apprentices and their parents or guardians to join us to find out more about Hydro Tasmania and the opportunities for new apprentices.
A Great Place to Work
Hydro Tasmania is Australia’s leading renewable energy business. We employ around 820 people throughout Australia and have a proud history of over 90 years of power engineering and dam construction.
With a dedication to core values such as honesty, respect and diversity throughout all facets of the business, Hydro Tasmania values its employees and strives to ensure that they are given all the support, motivation and opportunities required to perform at their peak potential, while maintaining a healthy work/life balance.
Unique Experiences
Hydro Tasmania's power schemes include power stations, dams, canals, flumes, pipelines, tunnels, roads and a range of concrete and steel structures. Investment in these assets is expected to exceed $300 million over the next five years.
Our apprentices will have the opportunity to work on a huge variety of projects across the length and breadth of Tasmania carrying out maintenance, shutdowns, refurbishments and upgrades and operational activities.
A Supportive Community
Apprentices are essential to the future of our business. As part of our supportive culture, Hydro Tasmania will ensure they are guided through the program by dedicated mentors, supported and encouraged by fellow staff, and provided with extensive support and oversight from their apprenticeship coordinator.
By giving apprentices an exciting opportunity to gain new experience, knowledge, and skills across a variety of projects both internally and externally, Hydro Tasmania will benefit both by enhancing the business and by having an apprentice that can do and handle more. It will also increase confidence in the apprentice and make their work more interesting and satisfying and ultimately retain valuable, skilled staff.
Upon completion of the apprenticeship program, exceptional apprentices will be offered the opportunity to apply for a position and pursue a career at Hydro Tasmania through the GenTech Framework.
The GenTech system is a streamlined framework for advancement within Hydro Tasmania. It provides extensive training opportunities and attractive financial incentives to help qualified technicians achieve their career goals.
Apprentice Retention Guarantee
As important as attracting good apprentices, it is just as important to retain them. The apprentice will be exposed to new, innovative and up to date processes and information. The apprentice will be provided with every opportunity to continue developing their career path with successful outcomes for both the apprentice and Hydro Tasmania.
At Hydro Tasmania it is important to communicate the business values, needs and requirements. This will ensure that the apprentice will want to continue that purpose with a strong sense of commitment. Incentives such as these will provide a responsive work environment for apprentices ensuring they feel valued and in turn will potentially maintain a winning workforce.
