Bus Subsidy Information for Regional Visitors to Hands On
Pre Visit Information
Hydro Tasmania is able to assist schools from outlying areas of the State to travel to Hands On.
We are able to offer a bus subsidy which covers 35% of the bus costs to and from Hands On.
All other costs including additional travel to other locations are not covered by the subsidy.
HOW TO APPLY FOR A BUS SUBSIDY
Please show these guidelines to your school bursar
- Your school pays the bus company & Hydro Tasmania reimburses your school for the trip to Hands On.
- After the school has visited, please provide an invoice from your school.
Include a quote from the bus company showing the travel costs from your school to Hands On & return (as a separate amount to any other costs for venues, days, hours or driver accommodation etc).
- Your invoice can be sent either by:

- Finally, we would like to receive some form of acknowledgement through school publications or newsletters re our assistance in subsidising your trip. For example: "We would like to acknowledge the generous support of Hydro Tasmania with their significant contribution towards the cost of transporting our students to Hobart to visit the Hands On Energy Discovery Centre."
- We would also really appreciate receiving a copy of your publication for our files too!
Please consider the timing of your visit to Hands On.
Students who have been "up all night" the night before their visit to Hands On or who have just visited the Aquatic Centre or indulged in other strenuous physical activity prior to their visit are often too exhausted to fully participate in our sessions.
This can have an adverse effect on the dynamics of the rest of the class being able to become fully involved.
