Bus Subsidy Information for Regional Visitors to Hands On

The Hands On Energy Discovery Centre (Hands On) is a unique educational experience catering for Tasmanian students of all ages.
It is a much-valued resource for teachers wishing to bring to life the concepts of electricity, energy and care for our environment in a stimulating venue.
Located in Hobart, it is conveniently located for schools in the south of the state.
However . . . .
In recognition of the necessity for schools from regional areas of the state to travel to Hobart, Hands On is able to offer a subsidy to assist with the cost of hiring a bus - for those schools who would otherwise, due to financial constraints, be unable to conduct this excursion.
The subsidy is designed to reimburse the cost of chartering a bus. From October 1st 2006 this subsidy will be 35% of the actual bus costs to travel to and from Hands On. Additional costs for driver, accommodation & wages for multiple day excursions are not covered.

Although the visit to the Centre may be a fun/enjoyable time, we are providing a high-quality, high-value educational resource and as such we request that students visiting the Centre do so respecting the time and effort taken by our staff in preparation for your visit.
Students who have been "up all night" the night before their visit to Hands On or who have visited the Aquatic Centre or indulged in other physical activity prior to their visit are often too exhausted to fully participate in our sessions. This can have an adverse effect on the dynamics of the rest of the class being able to become fully involved.
The following guidelines are provided for the assistance of teachers planning a visit to Hands On who wish to apply for a bus subsidy. Please provide a copy of these guidelines to your Bursar to ensure we can promptly process your subsidy.
- You will need to complete the "Bus Subsidy
Request Details Form"
providing details of your school's financial institution.
- Provide a quote from the bus company showing the travel costs
from your school to Hands On & return (as a separate amount to any
other costs for venues, days, hours or driver accommodation etc).
- Once the school has visited, please provide an invoice, from
your
school, addressed
to Hydro Tasmania, Hands On Energy Discovery Centre, 4 Elizabeth
Street, Hobart. (NOTE:
Your school pays the bus company & Hands On reimburses your school
for the one way trip to Hands On.)
- Finally, we would like to receive acknowledgement, amongst
your school community, of our contribution towards the development of
your students. We would be pleased to receive recognition in
school publications and newsletters similar to:
"We would like to acknowledge the generous support of Hydro Tasmania with their significant contribution towards the cost of transporting our students to Hobart to visit the Hands On Energy Discovery Centre."
We would also really appreciate receiving a copy of your publication for our files too!
