Hydro Tasmania support for Tasmanian bushfire relief
Hydro Tasmania has offered support for Tasmanians affected by devastating bushfires over the past week.
CEO Roy Adair said Hydro Tasmania has donated $25 000 to the Red Cross Tasmanian Bushfires Appeal on behalf of the management and staff.
“The Tasmanian community has experienced devastating fires over the past week,” Mr Adair said.
“The response of the community to help those affected has been overwhelming, and we are proud to play a small part in providing assistance both to immediate relief efforts and the longer process of recovery of affected communities.”
In addition to the cash donation, Hydro Tasmania has offered support to Aurora Energy in restoring power to the Tasman Peninsula. Linesmen currently working on the Bass Strait islands will travel to Hobart on Monday, and will work with Aurora Energy next week to replace damaged power transmission infrastructure. Hydro Tasmania has also offered support to the State Emergency Service through use of mobile generators for temporary power supply.
Although fires burning in the Derwent Valley and in the South West wilderness area have posed a threat to hydropower assets, there has been no damage to date.
Hydro Tasmania continues to liaise with the State Emergency Service, Aurora Energy and other organisations working on fire control and recovery work.
