Dear Sir
Hydro Tasmania seeks to clarify Basslink operations in response to the conclusion drawn by Rod Myer in his article of Monday 7 November entitled ‘Dark days loom for power supply’, which had the subheading ‘Basslink raises threat of summer blackouts’.
In this article, Mr Myer drew the conclusion that Basslink will be limited in its operation.
Hydro Tasmania’s contract for Basslink is based on the cable being able to deliver around 480 megawatts continuously, with the potential for delivery of about 570MW for 10 hours a day.
Hydro Tasmania confidently expects to be in a position to deliver to this rating and thereby be a potent influence in helping to meet Victoria’s electricity supply needs. It will do so through contracts with counterparties in the National Electricity Market.
Yours faithfully
Geoff Willis
Chief Executive Officer
Hydro Tasmania
